Barilla investe cento milioni al Sud, nuovo polo della pasta a Foggia

Barilla, the pasta producer, is investing 100 million euros in southern Italy to establish a new pasta hub in Foggia, Puglia. The company is revising its industrial base in Southern Italy, aiming to enhance sustainability, logistics efficiency, and overall productivity. By 2025, Barilla anticipates a consolidated revenue of 4.837 billion euros and a global workforce of 8,823 employees.

The company also aims to redefine the role of certain production sites through the involvement of industrial partners to ensure their continuity and support their development.

Giovanni Palopoli, Barilla's Operations Manager for Meal Solutions, explains the strategy as being "designed to remain competitive in a challenging market like that of pasta" and confirms the group's commitment to industrial activity in the South. The project, which will take shape between 2028 and 2030, involves the construction of a new-generation mill for the existing pasta factory, creating new jobs.

Simultaneously, negotiations are being advanced regarding the acquisition proposals presented by Pastificio Liguori S.p.A. for the Marcianise (Caserta) facility and Molino Casillo S.p.A. for the mills in Altamura (Bari) and Castelplanio (Ancona). For both operations, the Group, which has already initiated dialogue with trade unions on the content of the industrial plan, considers the continuity of employment for all involved personnel "a fundamental prerequisite."

Liguori and Casillo have already expressed their willingness to preserve the continuous production of the sites involved, safeguarding employment and skills in their respective territories while ensuring new, long-term development prospects.

In these same sites, production destined for Barilla Group will continue to be carried out on the basis of long-term supply contracts with the acquiring companies. Palopoli reiterates that "creating one of Barilla Group's strategic pasta hubs in Foggia meets the need to improve our logistical efficiency and productivity. At the same time, we have set as indispensable conditions the continuous production of the sites involved and the protection of employment and the treatment of all people affected by the operations."
