Banking sector now stronger, insecurity will soon be defeated – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that Nigeria’s banking sector has become stronger and more resilient, while assuring Nigerians that the country’s insecurity will soon be defeated. Akpabio spoke while rallying citizens behind President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope reforms, emphasizing that financial-sector reforms, security operations, and citizens’ cooperation are key to economic recovery and national development.

Under the Tinubu administration, the era of bank collapses and depositor losses has ended, Akpabio said, crediting the reforms for the banking sector’s transition to one of the safest, most resilient, and technologically advanced systems in Africa. The ongoing consolidation and recapitalization of banks demonstrate that the administration’s economic policies are delivering results, restoring investor confidence, and protecting depositors’ funds.

Turning to security issues, Akpabio acknowledged that insecurity remains a significant hurdle to Nigeria’s development. He noted that security forces have shifted from a reactive stance to a more proactive approach, targeting criminal elements directly. "The security forces are taking the fight directly to the enclaves of criminals, bandits, and insurgents," the Senate President said. "I assure Nigerians that insecurity will be defeated."

Akpabio appealed for greater cooperation between citizens and security agencies, emphasizing that military hardware alone cannot end criminality. He urged Nigerians to provide timely and credible information to security authorities, describing citizens as a critical source of intelligence. "Security is a collective civic responsibility," he stated. "Our security personnel are working tirelessly on the frontlines, but they rely on actionable intelligence from the communities they protect."

The Senate President also acknowledged the temporary economic challenges faced by Nigerians, explaining that sacrifices are part of efforts to tackle structural problems and build a stronger economy. He assured that the reform initiatives have already begun to yield results and that the administration remains committed to policies aimed at creating a more prosperous future for Nigerians.

Akpabio urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support national development and collaborate with government institutions. "Let us stand united, support our security agencies, and work hand-in-hand with this administration to build the nation of our dreams," he concluded.
