Automotive design council to strengthen ethics, discipline among workers

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has pledged to reinforce ethical conduct and discipline among its staff to enhance accountability, integrity, and transparency in the public service sector. On Thursday, the council's Director-General, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, made this commitment during a one-day sensitisation workshop in Abuja.

The workshop was organized by the council's Reform Coordination/SERVICOM Unit in collaboration with the Code of Conduct Bureau and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms for NADDC staff.

Osanipin, represented by the Director of Vehicle Electrification at NADDC, Mr. Ayinde Abdullahi, emphasized that public office is a position of trust that must not be exploited for personal gain. He highlighted the critical role of discipline and integrity in maintaining the credibility of public institutions, stating that the council's mandate necessitates both technical competence and responsible conduct.

During the workshop, Osanipin outlined principles that should guide staff behavior, including integrity, accountability, professionalism, impartiality, and avoidance of conflicts of interest. He stressed that ethical conduct is a collective responsibility, emphasizing that every officer, irrespective of rank, plays a vital role in protecting the integrity of NADDC.

The workshop aimed to refresh staff's understanding of ethical standards, encourage them to examine their duties, and foster a collective commitment to uphold high ethical standards, even when challenging. Osanipin reiterated that public office is a trust and must not be used for personal benefit, especially when exiting political roles. He urged staff to comply with the Code of Conduct to avoid sanctions and stressed the importance of ethics, accountability, and professional conduct in institutional excellence.
