AFCON 2027Q: Ronald Donkor receives maiden Black Stars call-up for Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia and Morocco games

Ghana's national football coach Carlos Queiroz has announced a 24-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia in September and October. The team selection reflects the strong showing Ghana made in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with many players from that tournament returning to the national side.

Mohammed Kudus, who was sidelined for seven months due to injury, has been recalled to the squad, marking his first appearance with the Black Stars since missing out on the 2025 AFCON finals.

Young talent Jan Gyamerah and Ronald Donkor have earned their first senior international call-ups, having impressed in their respective club leagues. Benjamin Asare, the goalkeeper for Hearts of Oak, and Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Anang continue to be fundamental members of the team. Nathaniel Adjei, a defender playing in France for Lorient, and Ibrahim Osman from Brighton return to the national team after a year-long absence.

Brighton midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana, playing for Sassuolo in Italy, rounds out the squad with his addition, providing further depth to the team. Ghana's AFCON qualifying campaign begins with a Group C opener against Côte d'Ivoire on September 24, followed by a home match against The Gambia on September 29. The squad will then conclude the international window with a friendly against Morocco on October 4, as the team prepares for the remainder of the qualifying process.
