Admins, you've been warned: The clock is ticking on Edge's IE Mode

Microsoft has issued a stern reminder to administrators that Internet Explorer mode within Microsoft Edge is only guaranteed support until 2029. Enterprise clients who still rely on legacy websites should begin migrating their systems away from this feature to prevent security, compatibility, and compliance risks. Internet Explorer mode employs the Trident MSHTML engine from Internet Explorer 11, allowing support for elements such as ActiveX controls.

However, other Internet Explorer functionalities, like custom toolbars, are not compatible with Edge's IE mode. Microsoft has stated that they will provide a one-year notice before deactivating the feature. While the end of 2029 may seem distant, organizations heavily dependent on Internet Explorer technology could face substantial challenges in modernizing their systems, which can take many years to complete.
