Action against sleeper coach operators on motorways stayed

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has barred authorities from penalizing sleeper coach operators on motorways, following a petition challenging regulatory actions. Justice Mohammad Asif intervened in the case, halting disciplinary proceedings against the bus operators. Advocate Mohammad Fahim Akhtar Gill represented the petitioners in court.

The IHC has suspended a notice dated June 18, a letter from July 14 and an office memorandum issued on September 4, pending further proceedings. The court instructed authorities to provide detailed responses to clarify the legality of the regulatory measures and actions taken against sleeper coaches. The IHC issued notices to the respondents, requesting replies and comments on specific points prior to the next hearing.

The petitioners argued that the regulatory measures and challans issued to the sleeper coaches were unlawful, requesting the court to declare these actions as illegal and lacking lawful authority. The court granted interim relief to the petitioners and restrained authorities from taking punitive action against the sleeper coach operators until further notice. The hearing was adjourned until the last week of October.
