Pehamuan Perpaduan Negara, Aaron Ago Dagang, has called upon art enthusiasts, content creators and social media users to employ free speech responsibly. In a statement, he urged relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into a theatrical performance accused of containing disparaging references to the monarchy, the nation and the Rukun Negara.

The inquiry must consider all applicable laws and regulations, including the Prevention of Cruelty Act, Communications and Multimedia Act, Sedition Act and any other relevant statutes, according to the statement.

The minister also reviewed a video of the performance that was recently uploaded to social media platforms. Aaron emphasized the need for artists, content creators and social media users to use free speech responsibly. There should be no space for anyone to exploit matters that touch upon the monarchy, national sovereignty and the fundamental principles that form the foundation of life in our country, he added.

Previously, the Islamic Youth Corps Malaysia urged the organizers and those involved in a theatrical performance deemed offensive to the Rukun Negara to provide explanations and issue a public apology.
