A milestone at Kuno: Cheetah born to South African feline now has four cubs of its own

BKB, an agricultural business based in Gqeberha, South Africa, has generated R6.77 billion in revenue over the past financial year, a figure that equates to around R18.56 million daily. The century-old company, originally established in 1919 as the Farmers’ Co-operative Wool and Produce Union, has since grown to encompass various sectors within the agricultural value chain. These sectors include livestock and wool, grain, agricultural retail, fuel, property, and financial services, serving farmers throughout the country.

The company's origins trace back to the founding of several wool cooperatives in the early 20th century, including Boere-Saamwerk Beperk, the Wool Growers Association, and Koöperatiewe Wolmaatskappy. These cooperatives eventually merged in 1975 to form BKB. Today, BKB has broadened its scope beyond wool operations, demonstrating significant growth over recent years.

In the 2025 financial year, BKB's operating profit rose by 24.5% to R332.2 million, and profit before tax increased by 46.9% to R273 million. Additionally, the value of business transactions grew by 11.4% to R15.3 billion. The company's headline earnings per share saw a 38.2% increase to 241.3 cents, while basic earnings per share rose by 46.4% to 245.3 cents. Importantly, net interest-bearing debt decreased by 53% to R262.4 million.

BKB's strong financial performance can be attributed to a series of successful restructuring efforts that took place over several years. During this period, the company streamlined its portfolio and divested non-core, loss-making operations, contributing to its current success.
