Over the years, she climbed the ranks, becoming a store and district manager in the 1990s and then venturing into corporate roles in the 2000s. In 2016, she was appointed as the executive vice president for U.S. stores & international operations and was later promoted to senior executive vice president by November 2023.

At a time when job hopping is common among Gen Z, Campbell's long-term employment at Home Depot is a testament to the benefits of staying with one company. She believes that finding work you love is crucial to building a successful career. Campbell shared this insight with students at Longwood University in 2014, emphasizing the importance of confidence and seizing opportunities.

In the late 1990s, while managing 13 stores in Miami, she faced personal and professional challenges but received valuable support from her boss, which helped her navigate through the difficult period.
