63yo widower sues ex-girlfriend for $191,000 he allegedly paid for apartment in her name

A 63-year-old widower from Ho Chi Minh City has filed a lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend for $191,000, alleging that he paid for a three-bedroom apartment in Hanoi, which is registered only in her name. Tuan met Thuong, 48, in 2019 after her first wife died. They had a relationship that lasted three years and Tuan managed all the finances, giving her his entire salary to spend on their life together.

In late 2020, Thuong suggested buying the apartment in Hanoi, to which Tuan agreed. He transferred her VND5.5 billion in total, with about VND350 million more spent on the interior. However, according to the lawsuit, the title to the apartment is registered only in Thuong's name, despite the couple agreeing to add Tuan's name later.

Tuan claims he stopped transferring money to her after discovering that Thuong had a different business plan and that she spent the money on her lifestyle, not for the family. He is seeking the return of the money he gave her. Thuong denies the allegations, stating that none of Tuan's transfers mentioned the apartment and providing her own bank statements showing she also contributed financially to the purchase.
