10, including four Custom Division officers, in custody over drug trafficking at the port

Ten individuals, including four officers from Ghana's Customs Division, are currently in custody as law enforcement investigates allegations of drug trafficking through the country's ports. This development emerged following a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and the nation's security chiefs, during which they were briefed on the ongoing investigations.

According to a statement released by President Mahama's spokesman, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the 10 suspects are being held while authorities continue their probe into the drug trafficking case. The meeting also focused on reviewing the current security measures in place at Ghana's ports and identifying further steps to bolster efforts against drug trafficking.

In response to the briefing, the President has tasked an inter-agency task force with developing a comprehensive plan to prevent the movement of illicit drugs across Ghana's borders. The task force has been given two weeks to submit its recommendations, based on the discussions held during the meeting. Authorities are also intensifying their efforts to investigate how illicit drugs managed to bypass Ghana's port security and to strengthen security systems to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
