Zimbabwe's Tavengwa Mukuhlani succeeds Singapore's Khwaja as new ICC deputy chairperson

Zimbabwean Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been chosen as the new deputy chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC) until November 2027, succeeding Singaporean Imran Khwaja, the board of directors announced on Thursday. Mukuhlani currently serves on multiple ICC committees, including Finance and Commercial Affairs, Nominations, and chairs the HR and Remuneration Committee. He is also the chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket and represents the organization on the ICC Board.

Khwaja's departure from the ICC Board paved the way for Mukuhlani's appointment. The timing of this selection is particularly significant for African cricket, as Zimbabwe is set to co-host the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 alongside South Africa and Namibia. ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed his congratulations, stating that Mukuhlani's experience in cricket administration, awareness of the global game, and dedication to development will be invaluable to the ICC Board.

Shah also highlighted Mukuhlani's appointment as a major milestone for Zimbabwe, making him the first Zimbabwean to hold the position of Deputy Chair. Mukuhlani, in turn, expressed his excitement about working closely with ICC Chairman Jay Shah and fellow board members. He emphasized that cricket is entering an exciting period, with the sport returning to the Olympic Games and continuing to expand globally.
