Zelenskyy names Anton Kovalskyi as Ukraine’s acting prosecutor general

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recently appointed Anton Kovalsky as the acting Prosecutor General, as mandated by Decree No. 946/2026 published on the president's website on Thursday. This decree comes into effect from the day of its official release. Kovalsky, 42 years old and hailing from Vinnytsia, previously served as the head of the Khmelnytsky Regional Prosecutor's Office, taking over from his predecessor, Ruslan Kravchenko.

Kovalsky's tenure began at the Khmelnytsky office on July 1, 2025, following his brief stint as the leader of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office in November 2021. Kovalsky's appointment comes after Zelensky dismissed Kravchenko from his position on September 15, a decision supported by the Verkhovna Rada. Kravchenko had alleged he was the target of a systematic assault on anti-corruption bodies, making accusations against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos and an individual associated with SAPO's head.

Both NABU and SAPO condemned Kravchenko's actions as part of a concerted attack on anti-corruption institutions. Following his dismissal, Kravchenko departed Ukraine on the evening of September 14.
