Yemen’s Houthis say Saudi strikes killed one, targeted telecom towers

Saudi strikes in Yemen claimed the life of one civilian and targeted three telecommunications towers on Thursday, according to Houthi media reports. The strikes occurred in Taiz province and the town of Abs, with Almasirah television confirming the damage. Just days earlier, Riyadh accused the Houthis of launching a strike on the holy city of Mecca, a claim the group denied.

Since seizing control of strategic coastal areas, the Houthis have reported dozens of daily Saudi attacks. Their recent territorial gains solidify the influence of Iran and its allies over the Bab al-Mandeb strait, a critical shipping route for oil. The fragile 2022 truce between the Houthis and the government collapsed in July when the group allowed an Iranian plane to land in Sanaa, prompting a series of retaliatory strikes. The ongoing conflict has displaced over 100,000 people, according to the United Nations.
