Xpeng to offer tech systems to foreign parties to fund robotics, robotaxi ambitions -- Reuters

Chinese electric vehicle company XPeng is planning to offer its technology solutions to foreign automakers, according to sources familiar with the matter. The company seeks new revenue streams beyond its partnership with Volkswagen. XPeng has been in contact with potential partners who have expressed interest in its technology, including electrical and electronic architecture, cockpit systems, Turing artificial intelligence chips, and advanced-driver assistance software.

Potential partners may also include foreign software developers and automobile suppliers. The EV maker is expanding into robotaxis, humanoid robots, and flying cars, and plans to broaden its technology licensing and customization business to cover these areas. The move comes as Chinese EV makers reshape vehicle design and technology worldwide.

XPeng established a strategic commercialization team six months ago to explore new technology partnerships and commercial possibilities, building on its alliance with Volkswagen. The partnership began in July 2023 when Volkswagen invested in XPeng. The first jointly developed model, the ID.Unyx 08 electric SUV, incorporates XPeng's technology and entered mass production in March 2026.

XPeng's partnership with Volkswagen has become a significant source of revenue for the company, with technology services revenue almost doubling and margin increasing to 75.1 per cent. XPeng's CEO, He Xiaopeng, believes humanoid robots could generate significantly higher margins than vehicles. The company plans to begin commercial deliveries of its humanoid robot, Iron, in 2027.
