WiSA collaborates with UN to host Africa’s two roundtable sessions at 81st UNGA

Women in Sustainability Africa (WiSA), alongside the United Nations Office for Partnerships and the African Union, will host two high-level roundtable discussions at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2026. The sessions, titled Africa Media for the SDGs Roundtable and African Women Leading the SDGs Roundtable, are set to take place on September 20, 2026, at UN Headquarters in New York.

The event, moderated by WiSA's Founder and President, Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong, aims to speed up the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Africa's Agenda 2063 by prioritizing women and young people in development efforts. WiSA, established in May 2025 in partnership with the UN Global Compact, emphasizes the importance of African women and youth in driving agricultural, healthcare, educational, governance, and informal sector progress.

With only five years left until the 2030 deadline, the organization stresses the critical need to center women in leading SDG action. The roundtables will focus on critical interventions in health, climate change, renewable energy, agriculture, trade, circularity, migration, technology, and artificial intelligence. Notable speakers include Ghana's former Vice President Jessica Alupo, African Development Bank Senior Vice President Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade, and Plot Enterprise Ghana Ltd CEO Patricia Poku Diaby.

The expected outcomes include an assessment of Africa's current SDG and Agenda 2063 status, identification of necessary interventions and partnerships, promotion of women and youth contributions, and the development of a clear roadmap for immediate action.
