‘Who is advising the Negeri Sembilan exco?’ asks senior lawyer

A senior lawyer has called on Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar to intervene in the constitutional crisis unfolding in Negeri Sembilan, following a purported coup attempt against Tuanku Muhriz. S. Raveentharan, the lawyer, contends that the State Exco's actions could amount to a coup d'état, though they may not be aware of the severity.

Raveentharan emphasizes that the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959 distinguishes it from other Malaysian states, as its First Part integrates traditional Adat Perpatih customs with modern written law, and its Elective Monarchy system. The loyalty to royalty, however, appears to be undermined by the state government, raising concerns among fellow lawyers about the potential for compromised rulers in Malay Sultanate States.

The lawyer asserts that the issue demands a thorough examination of the constitution and legal interpretation, but the situation must be addressed swiftly, given the people's reliance on an operational state government, particularly amidst global economic uncertainties.
