Which iOS 27 CarPlay Features Actually Work in Your Car?

In iOS 27, CarPlay has seen its most significant update in years, but the availability of certain features is dependent on the type of car rather than the iPhone model. The most noteworthy enhancements may not function in the majority of vehicles currently on the road. Below is an analysis of which features are available and which remain inaccessible.

Compatible widgets are now accessible in any CarPlay-equipped vehicle. Users can add any compatible widget from their iPhone's Home Screen to the CarPlay dashboard by accessing Settings ➝ General ➝ CarPlay, selecting their car, tapping Widgets ➝ Add Widgets. Widgets can be rearranged, removed, and customized to include Smart Rotate and Widget Suggestions.

Audio scrubbing has been improved, with a progress bar on the Now Playing screen enabling users to scrub through any point in a song or podcast. Additionally, a persistent mini-player remains on screen for artwork and controls while browsing. Apple Music Filters allow users to sort playlists, albums, artists, and songs using categories such as Favorites or All Playlists.

New wallpapers inspired by the Celosia design, featuring overlapping curves and soft shadows, are now available in 14 color options across iOS 27 and macOS 27. Lastly, the upgraded Siri now supports conversational interactions, syncing chats to the Siri app on the iPhone for later reference. However, this feature requires an iPhone supporting Apple Intelligence and enrollment in the Siri AI waitlist through Settings ➝ Siri.
