Valor Mortis is only $40 because its developer knows you'll be choosing from a lot of big games over this "stacked" autumn

Valor Mortis, the ambitious first-person Soulslike game from the creators of Ghostrunner, will launch on October 13th. Developer One More Level has revealed that the game will cost $40 / €40, a price point that is lower than many other titles releasing around the same time. In a message on X, the developer explained that while they are confident in the game's quality, they understand that players have limited time and money during this busy autumn season.

They emphasized that Valor Mortis offers a 20-hour story, on par with full-price games, but acknowledged the high demand for players' attention and funds. The game faces competition from several major releases in October, including Gears of War: E-Day, Ace Combat 8, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Final Fantasy Resonance, and Phantom Blade Zero.

Additionally, it comes on the heels of several September releases such as Marvel's Wolverine, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Control Resonant. A Deluxe Edition, priced at $60 / €60, includes the base game, a major story DLC slated for 2027, and a set of weapon skins. The developer promised free updates in the coming weeks and months.

Publisher Lyrical Games' Blake Rochkind discussed the pricing decision with The Game Business, stating that they wanted to convey confidence in the game and not send the wrong message to consumers. Despite the competitive release season, Rochkind expressed excitement for Valor Mortis and its potential to stand out among other games.

The game will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and will be included in Game Pass for both PC and Xbox.
