On the fourth day of a five-day media exposure tour in Chhattisgarh, a delegation from the Press Information Bureau in Dehradun, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, visited Nandanvan Zoo and Safari and Nava Raipur. The delegation, led by Assistant Director Shri Sanjeev Sundriyal, aimed to gain insights into development and conservation practices at these locations.
Nandanvan Zoo and Safari, situated on 320.15 hectares or 800 acres, is a medium-category zoo recognized by the Central Zoo Authority. The zoo features a 50-hectare zoo, a Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, and a 52.52-hectare Khandwa Dam. It is home to wildlife belonging to 43 species, including white tiger, Asiatic lion, Royal Bengal tiger, leopard, Himalayan bear, gaur, sambar, chital, nilgai, blackbuck, chinkara, gharial, and crocodile.
The zoo's enclosures are designed to mimic natural habitats, and visitors can access various areas via a 2.2-kilometre road network.
The media representatives observed Nandanvan's conservation efforts and the natural environments created for the wildlife. Following Nandanvan, the delegation toured Nava Raipur, a planned new urban area developed with a focus on green spaces, public facilities, road and transport networks, administrative and institutional buildings, and residential and commercial areas.
The visit provided Uttarakhand journalists with an opportunity to observe different models of development in Chhattisgarh, ranging from wildlife conservation to modern urban planning.
