Twenty-year NHL veteran Giroux still gets nervous ahead of Senators training camp

At 38 years old, Giroux is on the cusp of his 20th season and is aiming for his first Stanley Cup. The Ottawa Senators signed him to a one-year contract extension in the off-season, and he is eager to begin the new season.

Day 1 of the Senators' training camp showcased Giroux's readiness, with head coach Travis Green commenting on his performance. "I thought 'G' looked great today," Green remarked, seemingly impressed by Giroux's energy and skill. The veteran forward's presence is crucial as the team welcomes several new additions, including William Eklund, Andre Burakovsky, and Samuel Ersson, all acquired during the off-season.

Eklund, a 23-year-old forward, is expected to help fill the void left by former captain Brady Tkachuk, who was traded to the Florida Panthers. However, he is focusing on his own game rather than the expectations surrounding him. "We're two completely different players," Eklund told The Canadian Press. "I'm just coming in here to do my thing and bring my game to this organization every day."

Burakovsky, a 26-year-old forward, sees this opportunity as a chance to prove himself among a competitive roster. The 20-year-old Carter Yakemchuk, drafted seventh overall in 2024, is competing for a regular spot in the lineup and is working hard to earn it. Green aims to establish a fast pace and emphasize team play during the early stages of training camp.
