Tuanku Muhriz returns home amid dispute over removal as Negeri Sembilan ruler

Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, returned to Malaysia tonight amid a controversy surrounding his removal from the position. Upon his arrival at KLIA's VIP lounge from Dubai around 10.40pm, he was greeted by approximately 200 loyal supporters who chanted "daulat Tuanku" and "arrest the traitors." Accompanying Tuanku Muhriz were his wife, the Tunku Ampuan Besar, and their son, the Tunku Besar Seri Menanti.

When asked about his next destination, Tuanku Muhriz replied, "To the palace. Where else?" He further confirmed that he had returned to the country with the intention of resolving the dispute. The Negeri Sembilan executive council (exco) had declared his removal in April as legitimate, stating that Tuanku Nadzaruddin was now the new ruler. However, the state secretary was instructed to proceed with gazetting the proclamation of Tuanku Muhriz's removal in accordance with the relevant regulations.

On the other hand, the Negeri Sembilan Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) disagreed with the exco's decision, asserting that Tuanku Muhriz retained his status as the Yang Dipertuan Besar and that the exco members have no authority to make such an announcement. The Attorney-General's Chambers supported the DKU's position, emphasizing that the exco members lacked the jurisdiction, authority, or power under the Negeri Sembilan constitution to unilaterally remove the ruler.
