Tuanku Muhriz pulang ke istana, mahu selesai kemelut

Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir returned to the nation's capital Kuala Lumpur tonight. KUALA LUMPUR: Tuanku Muhriz arrived at Terminal 1 Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from Dubai and expressed his gratitude for the support received. "I would like to thank you for your strong support," he said.

When asked if he would return to the palace, Tuanku Muhriz replied, "Back to the palace, where else would I go?" When asked if his return aimed to resolve issues at the palace, he affirmed, "Yes, certainly, certainly. Thank you all." His return coincided with heightened turmoil concerning his position as Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

Around 300 supporters gathered at KLIA to demonstrate their backing. Yesterday, the Government Executive Council (GEK) of Negeri Sembilan declared the abdication of Tuanku Muhriz effective from April 19 and recognized Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as the new Yang Dipertuan Besar. The Chief Minister, Ismail Lasim, confirmed the decision today by a unanimous vote and instructed the state government to continue the legal proceedings.

However, the Legal and Undisclosed Affairs Department (DKU) argued that the GEK's decision lacked legal effect as the state government does not have the authority to determine the Yang Dipertuan Besar's position, while emphasizing that Tuanku Muhriz remains the state government's leader. Recently, the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) stated that the GEK's proclamation on Tuanku Muhriz's position has no legal effect.

According to the AGC, the GEK lacks the authority, jurisdiction, or power under the State Institutions Act 1959 to make such a proclamation. The AGC also asserted that there is no legal basis for the GEK to rely on the April 19 proclamation to make the relevant announcement. The act of promulgating or implementing the proclamation is deemed invalid and unconstitutional.
