Truck Driver Rescued After 5-Hour Operation From Container Trapped In 250-Foot Gorge Near Kolad

Navi Mumbai witnessed a daring rescue operation on Thursday evening when a truck driver was pulled from a container that had plunged 250 feet into a gorge near Kolad. The perilous situation unfolded around 5 pm on the Pune–Kolad highway, between Pahur Phata and Valanjwadi village. The container, carrying a driver and a cleaner, had veered off the road and tumbled down the steep slope. While the cleaner was able to escape with minor injuries, the driver remained trapped inside.

Upon arriving at the scene, rescue teams found the container precariously balanced against a tree, preventing it from sliding further into a deeper gorge estimated at 500 feet. The SVRSS Rescue Team, Erunkar Crane Service from Kolad, and the Kolad police immediately worked to stabilize the vehicle before attempting to extract the driver. Due to the unstable position of the container and the risk of destabilization, every step of the rescue was carefully planned and executed.

The rescue team took great care in stabilizing the container, ensuring the safety of their personnel during the operation. Once the container was stabilized, the team methodically moved to rescue the driver. The lengthy procedure required patience, precise planning, and seamless coordination among the rescue team, crane service, and police.

After nearly five hours of relentless effort, the driver was successfully extricated from the container and brought to safety. The cleaner, who had already managed to escape, was treated for minor injuries. Unfortunately, the driver's identity, medical condition, and the full details of the accident remain undisclosed as the police continue their investigation.
