Todd Boehly quits Chelsea selling ownership stake

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso reflected on the club's important day as ownership underwent a transformation. Behdad Eghbali, the Iranian-US billionaire, now holds almost full control of the team after Clearlake Capital took over from the previous owners, Clearlake Capital, Todd Boehly, and Mark Walter. The trio sold their respective 12.8% shares in the club.

Coach Alonso acknowledged the significance of the change in ownership, stating, "It's an important day for the club." He expressed gratitude to the former owners for their contributions and emphasized that Behdad Eghbali played a crucial role in persuading him to join Chelsea. Alonso further highlighted that the partnership between him and Eghbali was working well, calling it "phase one" that had been completed.

Despite confusion surrounding João Pedro's fitness, Alonso indicated that the Brazilian striker could still play for the team in their upcoming match against Brentford. He avoided confirming the nature of Pedro's injury but suggested that the possibility of Pedro being involved in the upcoming game was "a possibility." Alonso also mentioned Moises Caicedo's potential return to the squad due to a calf injury, as he was working towards being fit for Friday's match.
