The Sharks sign coach Ryan Warsofsky to a contract extension

The San Jose Sharks have signed coach Ryan Warsofsky to a multiyear contract extension on the first day of training camp, according to a report from the Associated Press. The 37-year-old Warsofsky, who has been with the team for his third season, had a 59-85-20 record in his first two seasons. He helped the rebuilding team get close to the playoffs and credits owner Hasso Plattner, general manager Mike Grier, and team president Jonathan Becher for giving him his first head coaching role in the NHL.

Warsofsky expressed gratitude to the Sharks leadership and believes the team is now ready to end a seven-season playoff drought. The Sharks improved by 34 points last season, making it the 10th best single-season jump in the last 30 years, and come into this season with playoff expectations, thanks in part to superstar Macklin Celebrini.

Grier emphasized the importance of getting the extension done before the season to allow Warsofsky to focus on the team without additional pressure.
