Tanzania will not be replaced as AFCON 2027 co-hosts – CAF president Motsepe

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has firmly stated that Tanzania will not be replaced as a co-host for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite concerns about the country's readiness. The tournament will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, marking the first time the AFCON has been shared among three nations.

Concerns have arisen over whether Tanzania's infrastructure will be completed on time, but Motsepe emphasized CAF's unwavering commitment to the three-nation hosting arrangement. He dismissed reports suggesting a Plan B or Plan C, stating that such alternatives would never be considered. Motsepe urged caution against inaccurate information regarding Tanzania's preparedness, acknowledging that some areas needed accelerated work.

However, he remained confident that with CAF's collaboration with Tanzanian authorities and stakeholders, Tanzania would meet the necessary requirements for a successful AFCON. CAF has dispatched a 21-member expert delegation across the three host countries to monitor progress, focusing on stadiums, training facilities, pitches, and other essential infrastructure.

Motsepe stressed the importance of close cooperation between all parties to ensure the tournament's success. He is set to return to Tanzania in January 2027 for a final assessment before the AFCON, scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
