Table tennis player, rower to carry nat'l flag at opening ceremony

Table tennis player Shin Yu-bin and rower Kim Dong-yong have been chosen to carry the Korean flag at the opening ceremony of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, according to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee. The event is set to take place on Saturday at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in central Japan. Shin, a 22-year-old athlete, will participate in four events: women's singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and the women's team event.

She is currently ranked world No. 1 in mixed doubles with her partner Lim Jong-hoon, who she partnered with to win bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics and four medals at the 2023 Asian Games, including gold in doubles. Kim, 35, is a veteran rower who has represented Korea for 17 years. In Nagoya, he will compete in the men's double sculls and quadruple sculls events, with a strong chance of earning a medal in the latter.

The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee also named archer Kim Woo-jin and shooter Lee Bo-na as co-captains of the entire delegation.
