Sonal Dinusha named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August 2026.

Sonal Dinusha has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August 2026, marking his first time being bestowed with this prestigious accolade in his career. At just 25, the left-handed batter has already made a significant impact in his short stint representing Sri Lanka in Test cricket. Having only played three Tests for the Sinhalese before the ICC World Test Championship series against India, Dinusha emerged as the leading run-getter in the two-match series.

Dinusha's stellar performance was nothing short of spectacular, with 420 runs at an astonishing average of 140, including three centuries and a half-century. Reflecting on his achievement, Dinusha expressed his gratitude to the ICC for this honor, stating that it meant a great deal to him, especially early in his career.

The series against India proved to be a memorable one for Dinusha, who scored 100 runs in the first Test and then followed up with 84 runs in the second. In the second Test, the left-hander not only netted twin centuries (103 and an unbeaten 133) but also orchestrated a famous draw for Sri Lanka. Dinusha highlighted the significance of scoring three centuries in Colombo and Galle, in front of his home fans.

While Sri Lanka fell short in the overall result, the team's fightback in the second match showcased their character, belief, and determination, which Dinusha was proud to be a part of.

Dinusha made his Test debut for Sri Lanka last year during their home series against Bangladesh. Since then, he has made a substantial impact in the longest format of the game, an achievement he acknowledges with humility. "Representing Sri Lanka is a privilege I never take for granted," Dinusha said, expressing his motivation to keep learning, improving, and contributing to the team.
