Six-time Grand Slam champion Salisbury retires

British doubles specialist Joe Salisbury, a six-time Grand Slam champion, has announced his retirement from professional tennis at the age of 34. Salisbury, who reached the semi-finals of the US Open men's doubles alongside Rajeev Ram last week, cited anxiety as the reason for a five-month break from the sport before making his decision.

Speaking on Instagram, Salisbury expressed his happiness with the decision, stating he has been "incredibly fortunate" to have had the opportunities and success in tennis, which he considers his life's work. The Putney-born athlete has had an illustrious career, including four men's doubles Grand Slam victories, two mixed doubles majors, and being ranked world No. 1 in 2022.

Salisbury also represented Great Britain in Davis Cup and competed in the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. Reflecting on his journey, he shared his gratitude for the support he received from family, friends, and the Lawn Tennis Association. Despite not knowing what lies ahead, Salisbury remains optimistic about the future, knowing that his experiences on the tennis court have made him a stronger and better person.
