Site supervisor shot dead during night attack on carbon-leaching site in Narok

A carbon-leaching site supervisor was killed during a night-time robbery in Narok County, Kenya. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 17, 2026, around 2:10 a.m. in the Loliondo area of Transmara South. Unknown armed suspects targeted the site to steal carbon used for gold extraction. Carbon is highly sought after for its use in gold mining.

Site supervisor Abdi Jamah was shot twice, once in the stomach and once in the left thigh, while resting in his room. He later died from excessive bleeding. A 24-year-old worker sustained an injury to his right limb and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Suspects broke into the strong room, stealing a small amount of carbon.

Police recovered two spent cartridges, which will undergo ballistic examination. Three men were arrested near the scene but failed to provide a clear account of their actions.
