Shettima clarifies comment on 6 Northern governors supporting Tinubu

Vice-President Kashim Shettima clarified his remarks on the support President Bola Tinubu received from northern governors for his 2023 presidential campaign. At the Emir of Ilorin's palace, Shettima mentioned that six northern governors were in favor of Tinubu's ambition in 2023. However, in a statement released by his Media Assistant, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima explained that his reference to the six governors was about political consultations and alignments before the APC presidential primary in June 2022.

The statement made clear that this was not a comment on northern APC governors' position after Tinubu became the party's candidate nor a question of their support during the 2023 presidential election. Shettima emphasized that following the presidential primary, APC governors in the north rallied around their candidate, playing vital roles in the campaign and electoral efforts leading to Tinubu's victory in the 2023 general election.

He praised the northern governors and other leaders of the APC for their contributions to the party's success and the power shift. Shettima apologized for any misinterpretation of his remarks and expressed gratitude to the Nigerian media for their professional and constructive engagement, urging them to maintain accuracy and context in reporting as the country approaches another political season.
