Scammers ‘rented Bangkok mansion for B900,000 a month’

Bangkok city officials and government agencies are collaborating to implement a new fare system that will limit rail fares to a maximum of 45 baht per trip, beginning on January 1, 2027. The measure, set to be overseen by the Transport Ministry, aims to standardize fares across Bangkok's rail network and surrounding areas. During a recent meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, representatives from Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, and Bangkok Thanakom Co. discussed coordinating data, managing infrastructure, and preparing systems for the new fare structure.

The plan includes eliminating duplicate entry fees for passengers traveling between different rail lines and consolidating management of the Green Line and Gold Line under the MRTA. Thai citizens will be charged based on the actual cost of their journey, with a refund issued if the fare exceeds the 45-baht limit. The government will refund the excess amount via the relevant payment method within three working days.

Passengers can use EMV Contactless payment options, including credit cards, debit cards, and Mangmoom cards. Existing discounted fares for vulnerable groups will remain available, and passengers can choose the option that provides the greater benefit. The committee will work on equipment upgrades, system installations, fare calculation rules, and passenger rights before the scheme's launch, with joint testing scheduled to ensure a smooth transition for users.
