SC raps CBSE for refusing to exempt Class VI from 3-language policy this yr

The Supreme Court scolded the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for refusing to exempt Class VI students from the three-language policy for the current academic year. The court has instructed CBSE to reconsider its stance, with the mandate to enforce the policy from the next academic year. CBSE had mandated the three-language policy for classes VI to X, where students were required to choose three languages, with two being indigenous.

The court intervened after CBSE refused to exempt Class VI students, despite the bench's request. The court emphasized the need for the comfort of students and suggested making the policy optional for Class VI students with appropriate incentives.
