S. Korean, U.S. troops conduct annual explosive ordinance disposal drills

Korean and American military forces recently held joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) exercises aimed at enhancing collaboration and interoperability, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). The training took place at the Army's I Corps and 9th Infantry Division in Goyang, which is situated north of Seoul, on Wednesday and Thursday. Around 200 personnel from various branches of the military, including representatives from the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division and the Korea Airports Corp., took part in the drills.

During the exercises, EOD units practiced their skills in simulated situations involving explosives planted in an urban setting. The joint operations were carried out by Korean and American troops working together to achieve a common goal. Additionally, the troops attended a seminar where they shared information about explosives and discussed methods to improve the EOD teams' operational capabilities in both peaceful and wartime scenarios.

The JCS clarified that the drills were not connected to recent security concerns, such as the ongoing evaluation of the potential deployment of Korean troops to the Strait of Hormuz. The officials emphasized that the purpose of the drills was purely to strengthen cooperation and interoperability among relevant agencies.
