Rodri a player 'we cannot replace,' says Man City's Hugo Viana

Manchester City's director of football, Hugo Viana, emphasized that the club believes midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to be an irreplaceable asset, despite his summer departure to Barcelona. De Bruyne's four-year contract with Barcelona was reportedly worth £65 million plus add-ons. The Spanish midfielder is considered one of the best in his position, having won 12 major titles during his seven-year tenure at City, including four Premier League championships, two FA Cups, three League Cups, and the UEFA Champions League in 2022/23.

De Bruyne scored the winning goal as City secured their first European title in 2023 and was named the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner. Viana stated that the club had positive conversations with De Bruyne and his agent, acknowledging that the player felt it was time to return to his homeland. The director of football added that they understand and respect De Bruyne's decision, while also being proud of his contributions to the club.

Other notable departures included defender John Stones, midfielder Bernardo Silva, and forwards Savio and Omar Marmoush. New signings included Nico Gonzalez and Tijjani Reijnders, who joined Newcastle United and Al Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League, respectively. Viana expressed the club's commitment to replacing departing players and bringing in new talent to ensure long-term success.
