Roda Rolls Out the Wet Carpet for San Miguel

Roda welcomed the members with a damp welcome on the first day of the Club Championships. The arrival of autumn was evident, though it didn't last long. As the morning warmed up and a gentle breeze blew, the playing conditions became pleasant. Despite an administrative error on the competition template, 43 members participated in the first round.

Some regular participants saved their best performances for Captain's Day at La Finca on Saturday. However, the overall turnout was good, and the fairways and greens were in excellent condition.

The divisional winners were announced: Gold - Sam Hancock (joint best score), Silver - John Battery (joint best score), and Bronze - Willie Fenn. Following the competition, everyone gathered on the terrace for the presentation. Marit Rønsen made her return from Norway in style, claiming the day's only Two. Nearest the Pins went to Ian Benzie, John Simmons, Dave Rowe, and Marit Rønsen, who finished the night with her Two. Bill Crichton won the McBride Bottle, and Matt Newman's choice of Everton won on the football card.

Mick Pryke received a commemorative SMGS shirt from incoming Captain Paul Lambert for his outgoing Captain's Day. Mick also joined Secretary Sandra Dibble to present €225 from the Blob Tin charity to Nikki and her volunteers at A Helping Hand. The charity supports local people in need of food and clothing.
