Qatar's envoy participates in dialogue on rights of women and children in conflicts

Her Excellency Dr Hind Abdulrahman al-Muftah, Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, engaged in a dialogue on the rights of women and children in conflicts on Thursday. This took place during the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council, under the agenda's third item. In her statement, Dr al-Muftah emphasized the utmost importance of safeguarding women and children during and after armed conflicts. This issue is a top priority for Qatar's foreign policy, diplomacy, and humanitarian programs.

Dr al-Muftah revealed that Qatar has taken international steps to promote and protect the human rights of women and children in conflict and post-conflict scenarios. These initiatives include Resolution 60/19, which it co-launched with Costa Rica, as well as the Women in Conflict Zones initiative, which was launched by Qatar in September 2022. This latter program aims to bolster the protection of women and ensure their active involvement in peace processes.

Furthermore, Dr al-Muftah highlighted Qatar's role in hosting the Analysis and Outreach Hub of the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict. This support aims to enhance prevention and monitoring efforts. She reiterated Qatar's plea to all parties in conflicts to adhere to their obligations under international law and to cease immediately the grave violations inflicted on women and children.

Dr al-Muftah also underscored the significance of ensuring justice, holding perpetrators accountable, and providing victims with appropriate remedies and reparations in line with international law.
