Punjab Introduces New Rules for Driving License Test

Punjab has implemented stricter rules for obtaining a driving license, with applicants now needing to complete testing and payment procedures within set deadlines. Effective since September 17, 2026, the new rules state that applicants who pass the e-Sign test must take the road test within 24 hours. Failure to do so causes the e-Sign test result to expire, forcing the applicant to restart the entire process.

Additionally, applicants who pass both tests must generate a Payment Slip ID (PSID) within the same 24-hour window. Not renewing the PSID on time leads to the cancellation of both test results. Once the PSID is acquired, applicants have seven days to pay the necessary fee. If payment is not completed in time, the application process is halted.

Should the PSID expire, the applicant must retake both the e-Sign and road tests within another 24-hour window. The Punjab Traffic Police center where the road test is administered is tasked with submitting the standard driving license application. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, Punjab, has instructed traffic officials in all districts to strictly enforce the revised procedure.
