President Lee set to meet IEA chief to discuss energy security

President Lee Jae Myung is scheduled to meet with International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director Fatih Birol on Thursday, his office announced. The discussion will focus on energy security and other global matters, according to a press release. This meeting follows Lee's proposal during the Group of Seven summit in June to explore cooperation and enhance the resilience of Asia-Pacific nations' energy supply chains.

The two leaders aim to exchange perspectives on bolstering global energy security in the face of escalating energy and climate crises, particularly aggravated by the recent conflict in the Middle East and the severe floods in Nepal. Birol has been instrumental in addressing the global energy crisis, including the IEA member countries releasing 400 million barrels of oil from their emergency reserves in March to respond to the Middle East situation, as reported by the presidential office.
