Polis siasat Noorazli berkait ucapan di PAU 2026

The Police are investigating the remarks made by Umno Sepang State President Noorazli Said, which touched upon religious sensitivities during the Umno General Assembly (PAU) 2026. According to the Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for Bukit Aman, M Kumar, the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

As of now, the police have received 86 reports related to the issue, with 93 witnesses recorded in the testimonies. "A total of 93 witnesses have been recorded, including the general public, officials, and Umno representatives including the suspect," the statement explained. The investigative notes will be submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers on September 18, 2026, for further instructions and guidance.

Section 298 of the Penal Code prescribes imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both if someone is found to deliberately wound religious sentiments of others. Meanwhile, Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 prescribes a fine of up to RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, for any negligence in the use of any facility or service.

The police also advised the public not to speculate on matters that might interfere with the course of the investigation or spread unverified information. Noorazli had previously been charged with 'fabrication' in his PAU speech on Saturday, which touched upon a father and a midwife. This resulted in police reports being lodged against him, apart from Umno Deputy Youth Leader Dr Akmal Saleh, Umno Sabah Treasurer Salleh Said Keruak and Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau, who demanded an apology from him.

On September 14, the Umno regional leader said he had 'already apologized' if he 'caused misunderstanding or offended any party'. A few hours later, he amended his Facebook post to state that he had 'already apologized' instead of saying he 'had already apologized'.
