PAS, Umno berbeza pendekatan rakan penyatuan ummah, kata penganalisis

PAS and Umno are said to differ in their approach to the ummah unity agenda, with analysts highlighting the distinct perspectives. Azmi Hassan, from the Nusantara Academy, suggests that Umno's approach indicates a greater willingness to engage directly with PAS, similar to the National Pillar (MN) arrangement a few years ago. He believes that involving Wawasan Nasional (Wawasan) in the rundingan (consultation) process would complicate the distribution of seats, especially as PRU16 approaches.

Azmi asserts that uniting the ummah specifically involves PAS, hence their desire to deal with PAS alone, as PAS's responsibility within PN is to distribute seats among its coalition partners. Meanwhile, Tawfik Yaakub from the University of Malaya argues that PAS's statement to expand the ummah unity narrative beyond PAS and Umno indicates the need to consider rakan (friends) sensitivities within PN.

He believes PAS cannot construct a narrative of unity that portrays other parties merely as ancillary or dispensable when power discussions occur. Tawfik notes that any inclusive political cooperation formula would have its challenges, given the increasing number of parties involved, making discussions on leadership, seat distribution, and relations with BN and PN more intricate.

Tawfik acknowledges that a broader framework could help PAS build a more inclusive Malay-Islam narrative, but it also risks opening space for party competition. Recently, Tuan Ibrahim stated that PAS and Umno must broaden the ummah unity agenda to include various parties, not limited to the two-party relationship alone. He says a changing political landscape and the rising youth vote demand a more inclusive framework that can encompass other groups in society.

This statement came as PAS and Umno's relations resurfaced in the spotlight following their cooperation in the state election of Negeri Sembilan. The two parties were present at the PAS Muktamar and Umno General Assembly, respectively, in the same month.
