ORPP set to inspect all fully registered political parties ahead of 2027 elections

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) is set to inspect the headquarters and branch offices of all registered political parties in Kenya from October 5 to 9, 2026. This inspection aims to ensure compliance with statutory requirements as outlined in the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D. The inspection, announced on September 14, will verify whether parties maintain registered head offices and branch offices in more than half of Kenya's counties, as well as if they possess accurate and authentic statutory records at their offices.

The ORPP, in its role as defined by Section 34 of the Act, is mandated to register, regulate, monitor, and investigate political parties, ensuring they adhere to the law. Parties are required to submit updated lists of their current office locations and contact details to the ORPP by September 25, 2026. An inspection checklist has been provided to guide parties in preparation for this exercise.
