Oliver Sørensen backed as Celtic’s answer to Arne Engels void

Scott Brown has expressed his belief that Celtic have a problem to resolve in midfield, stating he has faith in Oliver Sørensen to fill the void left by Arne Engels. Following St Johnstone's 3-0 Premier Sports Cup defeat to Rangers at Ibrox, Brown commented on the struggles of Callum McGregor, Mika Baur and Benjamin Nygren to make an impact.

Engels' departure has left a significant void, particularly due to his ability to support McGregor defensively and provide physicality in the middle of the park. Sørensen, who has only made one Premiership start since joining Celtic on loan from Parma, has the physicality required for the role. Brown remains optimistic about Sørensen's potential, praising his passing range and forward-thinking play, while acknowledging he has yet to fully test Sørensen's legs.

Celtic now prepare for their Europa League opener against Ferencvaros at Parkhead, recognizing the importance of a strong campaign in European competition, especially after their Champions League exit to LASK.
