MP Teacher Eligibility Test 2026 Deadline Extended To October 5 As 19,100 Teachers Apply, Exam Likely In December

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: The deadline for applying to the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) has been extended until October 5, 2026, after previously closing on September 18. The decision was made during a meeting of officials from the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) and the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education. As of now, 19,100 teachers have applied, with most hailing from private schools. The exam is expected to take place in early December.

The application process will be carried out through MPESB, and the exam will be administered by the MP Board. Currently, the main focus is on determining the total number of teachers who will take the test. After the application period concludes, the specific exam date will be announced.

The Union Ministry of Education has acknowledged the concerns raised by various entities, including teachers, teachers' associations, educational institutions, and organizations, regarding the implementation of mandatory TET. The ministry aims to review the current arrangements related to TET and engage with stakeholders, such as state governments, the National Council for Teacher Education, and education experts, to discuss the matter further.

Government school teachers at the primary and secondary levels, who have not passed the TET prescribed by the Right to Education Act, will be required to take the examination. Those who have already qualified for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) will be exempt from taking the TET. Candidates will likely receive examination centers in the district where they currently serve.

However, teachers from Pandurna and Mauganj will only be able to take the test at venues in their former districts of Chhindwara and Rewa. In cases where a district has a low number of candidates, the MPBSE may assign an examination center in the nearest district or at the divisional level.
