The Nigeria Labour Congress, in collaboration with fuel marketers, has urged the Federal Government to intervene in the petrol market due to the escalating cost of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly referred to as petrol. Currently, petrol prices range from N1,430 to N1,500 per litre across various states, with prices reportedly higher in less accessible locations.

The NLC fears that if international crude oil prices continue to rise, petrol could reach N2,000 per litre. Additionally, fuel marketers have warned that the growing influence of Dangote Petroleum Refinery on the market needs to be curbed. Meanwhile, the nation gears up for the upcoming 2027 presidential race, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress initiating legal proceedings against President Bola Tinubu and his All Progressives Congress party.

They are seeking the disqualification of Tinubu and the APC from participating in the 2027 presidential election due to an allegedly forged National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate. The ongoing repair of damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has caused significant traffic congestion and frustration among motorists and commuters.

This has led to thousands of travellers being stranded for hours, reigniting concerns over maintenance challenges on one of Nigeria's busiest highways.
