MoH probes expat doctor over patient privacy violations, photo publication

The Ministry of Health in Riyadh has launched an investigation into the misconduct of an expatriate pediatrician, focusing on patient privacy violations and the unauthorized publication of images, according to a statement released by the ministry. The probe followed the dissemination of reports on social media about the doctor's actions, which included filming patients during healthcare services and sharing images in a manner that compromised their privacy.

In response to the incident, the ministry promptly summoned the practitioner for questioning. The ministry's action is a demonstration of its duty to protect patients' rights and privacy, as well as to ensure adherence to health regulations, bylaws, and professional ethics within the Kingdom. The statement highlighted that the ministry is implementing all necessary legal measures against the healthcare facility where the practitioner is employed, alongside referring the practitioner to the relevant authorities to complete pending procedures within their jurisdiction.

The ministry stressed that any breach of patients' privacy, violation of their dignity, or disregard for health regulations and professional ethics will be dealt with accordingly. It reaffirmed its ongoing oversight of health facilities and practitioners, aiming to ensure compliance with health regulations and bylaws. The ministry urged members of the community to report any such violations via the unified call center number 937, in order to contribute to safeguarding beneficiaries' rights and improving the safety and quality of health services.
