Earlier this year, the company initiated commercial production at a semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking the first such project under the India Semiconductor Mission.
The current production capacity at this facility already surpasses the memory required for India's entire laptop market, according to Mehrotra.
The CEO explained that Micron designs memory chips in Bangalore and Hyderabad while assembling them in Gujarat, shipping the finished products to customers worldwide, including every continent. This year, Micron plans to assemble and test tens of millions of chips at its Sanand facility, with production set to increase to hundreds of millions of chips the following year.
Mehrotra attributed Micron's rapid growth in business to the rising demand for memory chips, driven by the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence. He stressed that AI's defining aspect is data, with no model possible without it, and that data cannot effectively move, scale, or generate results without sufficient memory and storage.
