He noted that Micron's finished DRAM and NAND products, now bearing the "Made in India" label, are being shipped to customers worldwide. The facility, which began commercial operations earlier this year, focuses on assembling and testing semiconductors rather than wafer fabrication.

It receives advanced DRAM and NAND wafers from Micron's global network and converts them into finished memory and storage products. With an investment of around $2.75 billion from Micron and government partners, the first phase of the project will include over 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space. The expansion of Micron's operations in India is driven by the growing demand for memory and storage due to artificial intelligence applications.

Mehrotra also mentioned that Micron has been operating in India for seven years, employing over 7,000 people directly and supporting thousands more through its ecosystem, and carries out chip design work in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
