Man jailed 4 weeks for grabbing passerby by the neck and attempting to kiss her

A Hong Kong man, Fung Ho-yin, 29, has been sentenced to four weeks in prison for indecent assault after allegedly grabbing a female passerby by the neck and attempting to kiss her. The assault occurred in Shau Kei Wan early Tuesday morning, according to prosecutors. Fung pleaded guilty to the charge during his appearance at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts.

On that fateful Tuesday morning, Fung was sitting on a bench in a park on Nam On Street when a woman, identified as X in court records, walked past him. He first attempted to take a photo of X before standing up, following her, and wrapping his left arm around her neck while using his other hand to touch her chest. He also made an attempt to kiss her.

The woman managed to escape and screamed for help, drawing the attention of a man inside a nearby gym who came to her aid. X called the police, leading to Fung's arrest. The prosecutor noted that while Fung had no prior criminal record, the gravity of the offense warranted imprisonment as the consequences of the incident could have been difficult to foresee.

Indecent assault in Hong Kong is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, with jail terms in magistrates' courts capped at two years for a single offense.
